Especially since the Hawks landed Rasmussen(sp).
I dont see Chi not reaching a deal with this kid.Kane and Towes will carry huge cap hits and theyll need cheap talent on the roster. If they cant, id love for the flyers to snatch him
edit...this tablet blows |

You have to assume that any offer would have to have greater value than the compensatory pick, which could be an early 2nd-rounder in a deep draft (PHX got #35 in the Blake Wheeler thing).
I almost doubt that any team will pony up that much to grab the kid, who's basically had one outstanding season... I expect Florida will probably take the biggest run at him Aug 15... his bro's under contract there and Tallon has a fondness for poaching Hawks property. |

It would be kind of funny if Tallon was to take advantage of a Chicago contract situation after he botched the qualifying offers when he was their gm

Honestly, if I were Bowman, I'd probably welcome the 2nd-rounder (or whatever I could juice from another team in a trade) over signing the kid to a bonus-heavy contract and having to make promises over playing time -- they're pretty much set up front for next season already. |

No. Stan Bowman botched the Qualifying Offers. Because Scottie Bowman is Stan's father he didn't take the fall. Tallon took the fall for Stan's screwup and as a consequence Stan took Tallon's job just as the roster Tallon put together was about to win the Stanley Cup.
It must be nice having a famous father that people don't want to piss off. |

I just don't understand the certainty people have about a substantial cap increase next year. Neither does the NHLPA who scaled back the increase this year to $69m. Total revenues this year were $3.62b or $80m less than forecast.
The new CBA allows for the players to calculate anticipated revenues like the new Canadian TV that adds $100m per year over the old deal. But the players only added half of that tv deal in their projection for next year because of their nervousness of the impact of overshooting and the escrow implications of that decision.
Bettman has predicted a 5% growth in revenues, moving the cap up to $72.5m. I don't think the cap problems for the Hawks will get any easier. |

Then I hope the rumors about Kane & Toews wanting $10m each are accurate. |

Parting ways with Vinny, and hopefully not having to retain much if anything from his contract, is the first step. Getting our hands on a solid top 6 prospect for an EL contract and bonuses would be sweet. With the signing of Rasmussen on top of their current crop of players and prospects, Chicago hasn't got much in the way of open roster spots. |

There's also the possibility of bad blood from Hayes POV over the trading of older brother Jimmy, last year. I just don't see him signing with the Hawks, and they will just take the 2nd round pick next year in what is supposed to be an outstanding draft. |

Not sure about the Flyers cap situation but i could see a trade involving Hayes that would also move cap space. Bickell, Versteeg, Rozival, and/or Leddy would have to be involved. Then the question remains, can you get him signed? Also there has to be value coming back in the trade. |

If the flyers move vinny we are just fine cap wise. But right now we are pretty much at our ceiling. |

The clock is ticking for the Chicago Blackhawks to get Kevin Hayes under entry level contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on August 15.
Just to make sure I'm understanding this, after August 15, any team can sign Hayes and Chicago gets nothing, right?
So then the idea is that Chicago will either trade his rights or allow a team, prior to August 15, to try to sign Hayes and the compensation going back to the Hawks would be a 2015 2nd round pick? |

That's all true, however, Scotty was the one who pushed for Savard to be fired and Quenneville to be hired. He also was behind hiring Q to begin with as a scout. And Tallon hasn't exactly set the world on fire in Florida. The real reason Tallon was fired was because he didn't get along with McDonaugh and the ridiculous rules McD sets to run every transaction by him before doing anything. McD was looking for any reason to can Tallon and put someone he has more control over in place, and the contract snafu was it. Not to rip Stan, he's done a decent job as GM, but McD has more control over how things run than most fans think.
